Excited and a little disappointed at the same time, as this new variant looks to be leaning towards a more “versatile taper” than the past versions that are designed more for bottom contact/soft plastics…
That said…very curious about that reel seat…👀

i have had this rod in the cart a few times and have yet to pull the trigger. I am not sure what exactly i am getting.. i saw the comparisons to the super cougar which i have but i dont have a black raven. That being said I keep trying to understand what this rod is all about. I will Most likely go with a TDZ for the match up

I agree… honestly, I’m a tad bit disappointed as this build seems to lean in the direction of a versatility based Rod, which is not what the Black Raven family is all about. Seems like so many models are overlapping each other these days. Almost like these companies are focusing more and more on playing it safe, versus building specialized sticks. EG often lists so many different techniques for each rod that it can be confusing for most to get a clear picture of where any given model really shines.
Ditto. For a second, I got excited about getting a longer and slightly beefier Raven for 1/2 oz jigs… But the description is a bit of a turn off like many have mentioned. The Raven Extreme is such a killer 3/8 oz jigs rod. Not sure why EG is trying to mix in cougar (a true treble moving bait rod) and Stallion in there. If all the rods will be “do anything rods”, then go to the St-Croix labeling system and call them MHF, MHM, MF, Etc instead of these fancy code names.
It seems like many brands are going specialized for individual applications so not sure why EG is trying to go more versatile.
Yep, this is moving in the wrong direction, IMO. Why taint or even destroy the legacy of a series/model to play it safe? A slightly longer version of the previous Ravens focused on bottom contact/plastics would be all win in my opinion. Many of us who have/fished the Rapid Gunner have been hoping for lighter powered version of some sort and this could’ve very well been it. “Super Raven“…7-7’2”, fast taper MH+…Would’ve worked for me and kept it in line with previous iterations. Just a hope/thought that they would continue its lineage and expand that VERY small segment of the Kaleido Series…that’s all.
@rise Makes WAY too much sense…
I was so excited when I heard “Super Raven”. And then…. I might still get it hoping it will still be a Raven and the versatility is just marketing. One can only hope…
We can definitely hope, but another question arises…
When was the last time most of us fished a full grip bottom contact stick?…🤔
