Can anyone verify if the knob posts on the Standard Plus handles can be removed? I have a 102mm Phat Lab swept handle that is absolutely mint, the only problem is it has the longer EVA foam knobs and the knob shafts are, consequently, longer as well. I recently attempted to swap knobs but was unable to fit some Shimano knobs to it. If I could swap the shafts with another handle, that would be ideal.

1. Can the knob shafts be removed without damaging anything?

2. Are the knob shafts standard or reverse thread?

Check the underside of the handle to confirm the shafts are seated with screws. My older and newer SC handles are seated with hex head screws. They are standard thread (lefty loosely)

@thomasjung Mine also have hex screws on the underside. Do they have Loctite on the threads?

I tried 1.5mm and 2mm hex bits as well as 5/64 and 1/16 allen wrenches and nothing fits right. Calipers show the hex hole at 1.8mm. What is anyone supposed to do with that? 🤣

Update: a 1.5mm allen wrench sufficed to loosen the screw on the back of the handle. I measured the hex bolt with calipers and it comes in at about 1.8mm. That is virtually unheard of, standard increments go from 1.5mm to 2mm.

I checked all my other SC handles and they all have this same wonky sized hex bolt. Makes me wonder if the carbon is JDM and assembled with Chinese hardware?

The screw does indeed have red Loctite, albeit just a little. The knob posts are also Loctited into place, whether that is merely the excess from the screw tip or else was generously applied to the knob shaft as well, I am unsure.

It was not worth it to yank out the knob post because they are the taller ones, which is the same size as my other handle has that I wanted to swap out, so that nullified my effort. However, it does appear that it can be done. I am unsure if they will come out easily or if damage is to be risked. But it can be done.

The knob posts measure about 28.31mm from the front face of the handle to the top. A little bit more material is hidden inside the handle hole itself, but it does not extend all the way to the back of the handle.
