From “No Cheese” to Double D’s…one helluva adventure is in the books.

Scott, Steffen, Myself and the living mummy, Joel Chin met up for a 3-day fishing trip that both physically and mentally kicked our asses, yet…yielded some memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Clear Lake was the destination, and unfortunately, the weather couldn’t have been worse. Friday shelled out legit 4-5 rollers and sustained 35-40 MPH winds that made me wish I had a boogie board on the boat. At least that would’ve been fun…

Add some rain pelting you in the face on runs and you’ve got yourself a good time.

That said…We were the only people stupid enough to be out on the lake, managing just a few fish between the four of us before making the looooong, slow, wet trip back to the resort. A 5.3 lber was one of only two I caught that day. The Tiemco/Fenwick Super Techna/Viola IS combo was responsible for the catches, while Joel managed a 3.5 and Steffen found a decent little chunk while yielding a Raid Anti Fairy wand/‘15 Exist. Scott caught the vapors and took on so much water during the storm that Joel’s tackle bag was floating in the cockpit, while Steffen and I had a nice drenching ourselves during our return.

We were all spent after that beating, so we grabbed some grub and chopped it up. A little weary, we didn’t get back out there until almost 8:30am the next morning, with only slightly better conditions. Joel was on my boat bitching about not liking cheese on his Sammiches that Steffen had so graciously made for us each day…🤣🤷🏻‍♂️, and once again we struggled. I managed only a couple of short swimbait bites and a couple of small fish on other techniques, but a phone call halfway through the day from Steffen changed the mood real quick.

On this trip we learned that Mr. Freshness himself has a jerking fetish…yes…Scott loves to jerk. He’s apparently always jerking and stayed married to that damn jerk bait for probably 98% of the trip. Well, on day two, it paid off. Steffen called to let us know that Scott had just caught an 11.15 lb tub of love. It would be his only catch of the trip, but I’m sure any of us would happily take that one fish over multiples, any day. Ye ol’ Vision 110 did the trick, this coming shortly after he reportedly lost a big fish to a bent out hook. They returned to the same spot about 15 minutes later and that’s all she wrote. GC Spelart, MB IS Crack Purple, 12 Tatsu, 110+1 shad pattern of some kind got her to chew. He had it tail weighted with a suspend strip for back drop, owner zo-wires. Quick drop, tail down on pause type o’ thing. Huge congrats, brother, on what many would deem a fish of a lifetime.

Late afternoon…We headed back in, chowed down, played some dice games and gambled at the casino for minute before hitting the sack.

Day 3 weather started off much nicer and was easily the best for me. The morning bite was solid before those bad winds picked back up again. I lost a good one first thing while Joel was trying to get the net, but after a little tantrum that included breaking my bait in half, I calmed down and put a few more in the boat right afterwards including a 4+ and others in that range. Joel snapped off a tank that we never got to see, unfortunately and that kick to the nuts resonated for the rest of the day. Anyone who’s fished this body of water knows…Those Clear Lake fish are just built differently and the one he had on was just too much for the 10lb test.

The X7 F4611X Super Elseil/Steez SV TW/MB 110+1 got most of those early bites handled for me and the Sedition Cristobal Ltd/Zonda 68/drop shot ended up putting my biggest of the trip in the boat coming in at 6.27. Needless to say…it was a fun fight on that ML-rated stick around cover and 8lb test, but the Cristobal never lets me down.

All in all, it was a tough go out there for all of us, but the camaraderie, experience and memories overshadow all of that.

One thing…I do want to touch on is perception of people on social media vs real life. We all-to-often perceive people based how they represent themselves on social media. More often than not, those people are not who they make themselves out to be on these platforms. It’s a sad truth, IMO. That said…This was my first time meeting Scott in person, and all I can say is that he’s an outstanding human being. He’s incredibly humble, compassionate, and friendly to a point that is was somewhat of a shock.

I joked on the way home with Steffen and Joel about liking Scott more in person then on social media, followed by a statement about me liking Joel on social media better than in person…🤣

Jokes aside, it was truly a pleasure to meet him in person and strengthen that friendship we’ve built over the years, on the phone/via text. He’s a real one.

Not much else to mention aside from the fact that I had an absolute blast with these guys and couldn’t be more grateful to call them friends. We don’t have many true friendships in our lifetimes, but these gentlemen are quality human beings that actually give a shit about the people they surround themselves with. It shows in their actions more so than their words. Thats rare these days and we should all be so grateful for the bonds in our lives. I know I am and I look forward to the next adventure with these clowns.

Mad respect, my brothers…👊🏼💥

Amazing stuff, congrats on fighting through the messy weather and sticking some great fish!

It’s always awesome to see it all come together - the boats, the combos, the baits, the fish and the people. Enthusiasm at its finest! I’m sure Rago commented that he is interested in catching DD only… lol

It’s a Daiwa variant.
