Call me crazy but I dig these, that black with colored accent on the underside tips looks great without having to have the entire star be a solid color. I know rays and SLP had the two tone stars that had the black end points with the colored circular centers and those were neat but I think these look better. I am stoked to get a few. They would look dead sexy on black frame reel. They would even look good on other reels with some black accents or a CF handle.
Agreed on the extra grip material not being necessary. I think most folks would just prefer solid aluminum for the entire star
Got some Transformers toys feel to these.
@kickerfish1 the metal base is clean, I’ll give you that. And the added color is a nice touch. But the “grip” looks like toys with sticky parts from the 90s. lol instead of this they should have done a run a moon star drags. lol much better!

You are crazy, but that’s besides the point…😉
That grippy material just cheapens the overall look to my eyes, but yes…a two-tone with more high end/refined materials in place would be a winner. I see the aesthetic potential and I’m also happy to see something “new-ish”, but….Sad that even SLP would move in this, what I deem a “lesser quality” direction.
@rise I agree on the newness. Maybe I shouldn’t complain too much as I feel it’s been a while since something new has come from a reputable reel tuning company rather than some Chinese knockoff company. The metal base with the plastic/zion star bit is a nice touch. Carbon has been welcomed and in a way become cheap to produce now so it’s nice to see some good machining.
I'd be much more inclined to be interested if the star drag material was metal.
