I was impressed with a couple models of the 21 PG. Kept the 170H and it pairs beautifully with the 19 Antares. That said, I’ll have to try at least one of the new variants….
No more Monoque handle? This is like Shimanos T-wing of marketing gimmicks right?
Not sure I like the cosmetics of this rod especially for the price tag. I am much more 50/50 on the 2025 model(s).
I am a huge fan of everything on the 21 models. The handle, the reel seat, the tapers, and the sensitivity is very much top shelf in my book.
@kickerfish1 it’s essentially a Poison Ultima at this point without the Monocoque rear section. The 21 as close to the PU as you’d get, but I’m ok with them going back to cork. Reminiscent of the first couple of iterations. Yes, prices are still high, but that where we are unfortunately. Grabbing one second hand will hurt a lot less. And…I’m with you on the aesthetics. Just Meh in my book, but as I said, the 21 impressed me enough to make me want to try one of these.
I feel like the monocoque is like a filament light bulb and sometimes I think i will break it or it will burst..lol, it was cool at first but the noise it makes when i hit it give me chills.. i should stop hitting it on purpose now .

🤣👏🏻👏🏻
I still don't think they have captured the essence of the first generation JPG rods with any of the new iterations. The first generation rods just had that magic look to em. I also like the return to cork, but I think cork can look a little bland if not accentuated properly. I am all for being on-brand but some of Shimano's (and Daiwa's for that matter) newer offerings look so sterilized.
And what is up with that hook hanger on the casting model?
design everything_
