Last year the spring weather came a little late in Toronto and as a result (yes we have closed seasons), when our bass opener day came about, the fish were still stuck in a very early post-spawn mood.  In other words, they didn’t really eat and were lock-jawed.  Me and my buddy fished for around 10 hours that day on the shore of Lake Ontario in a little bay, seeing largemouth swim by but not eating anything we threw at them.  My buddy was able to find one fish that was doing something different and would eat readily.  The rest of the fish we saw were cruisers and we couldn’t catch them with anything.  After about 4 hours, I managed to get one quick nip with a weightless OSP Dolive Shad, but the fish spit instantly.  Finally after 6 hours of throwing everything at those fish I finally picked up a RaidJapan Big2Way and rigged it on a short leader dropshot.  Threw it out into the wolf-pack of cruisers and let it sink before popping it up pretty high into the water column.  On the fall the line started running left and that was the first bite of the day for me.  Went on to catch another 4 fish with the same setup and my buddy changed up managing one too.  Just wanted to share something that was pretty cool and juicy with everyone!

Absolute love this. Way to grind it out and figure them out. Well done. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What combo(s) were you using?

I actually haven’t thrown the 2way yet…but I’ve been sitting on a few packs for a while. This gives me a good nudge to move towards trying them out. Have a trip coming up in a few weeks that will be a good time to throw em.

For what it’s worth, we’ve had a weird hot spell here in Cali and the fish are so confused it’s not even funny. Was out yesterday with a fellow enthusiast/great stick, on a body of water that we both love, for a half day. Expected a solid bite, but we got little to no wind, 100 degrees outside, 73-74 degree water, and a terrible algae bloom. Needless to say…it was tough and we only managed a few each. They should be moving onto/locking onto beds, but like you mentioned, lots of cruisers and not many eating. It’ll get better, though…right?!

@rise The combo I was using was a Raid Gladiator Anti Baltoro 610MH and a 20 Metanium XG, 14lb fluorocarbon.  The hook was a Ryugi Talisman 2/0 and weight was 1/4 oz.  Dropshot leader length was right around 8 inches.  The Antis are a great beater rod, especially with the price I was able to get mine for.  I've used it for stuff like weightless plastics (backslide, sakamata shad heavy, senko style), bigger Neko rigs, jigs, jika rigs, texas rigs, and even a spinnerbait a couple times.  It is my workhorse and it does it's job well.
