Just picked up a mint TDZ 103 ML Type R+ in perfect stock condition. My intent is to use this for my deep cranking rod. The only thing I am considering changing is the handle which is 80mm. I would prefer a 90mm length. Any recommendations on which handle I should use?

Also, the stock spool is very deep...good for large line capacity. If I were to change the spool to another large capacity spool...what would you folks recommend?

Thanks

Are you wanting to stay with a stock handle? I may have a 90mm OG handle, but I’ll have to double check. If so…it’s free to you, just pay shipping. Otherwise, if you want to go with aftermarket, unless you use Studio Composite, you’ll need to change the drag star as well, to accommodate a swept handle.

Lots of spool options out there. What will be primary baits/line test you’ll be using?

@rise If there is an OG 90mm handle I would be thrilled to use it. Appreciate you looking into your stock for me. Let me know what you find.

Primary baits would be Spro Little John DD70 and DT20 crank baits. Line size would be 12/14 pound test.

I’ll look at handles in a sec when I go into the man cave.

Spool-wise…stick with/try the stock for now, is my opinion. Great casting machines. Seriously…That R+ Inductor is used on quite a few of my spools. Try it first, and then maybe think about other options if you hate it…

Just my 2 cents.

Ran out of time tonight, my sincere apologies. Will dig through em tomorrow, for sure. I’m fairly certain I’ve got one for ya.

I was almost certain I had a 90, but I was wrong, my apologies. Although it’s an 80mm…a TD-Itö handle with the red accent might look sharp on your R+. Just food for thought. I’ve got a few spares….🤔

@rise Ahhh....as nice as they look I prefer a 90mm handle. Appreciate you looking for me. So the next move would be a 90mm which will require a different star drag as you previously mentioned. I'll check on Hedgehog site to see which ones they might have in red. Would you happen to have spool bearings that fit the stock spool on this reel?

@blksheepfishing no worries!…I believe I have bearings in stock for the TDZ. Did you check the site yet?

@rise I checked Hedgehog Studio site and the star drag in red that I’m looking for is out of stock. Would you have one… see attached photo.

That’ll work as long as it’s for Left Hand orientation. 🤙🏼
