Yeah the current offerings are kinda crap, I too miss the old days.  I'm waiting on parts to do up a Millionaire SW 103.  I'm building a Detroit River finesse reel from all Daiwa parts; SV Boost PE 1000, TD Sol gear set, OG Alphas Air handle, SS SV drag star, Alphas SV105SH worm and spool cap, Alphas pinion shaft, and SLP micro spool bearings.  It'll be a walleye/smallie/white bass machine.

Going to post pictures but my silver wolf with megabass finesse spool ( the silver one) combo is pretty bad meaning good.
