I’ve got a bunch of stuff to share about, as a lot of stuff has come in and I will in the next couple of weeks, but until then…
Took the GX-71XHC-ST out for its maiden voyage this past weekend with a couple of fellow enthusiasts and it got put to the test.
MB IS73 Viola with 12lb Sniper spooled up, slinging a 3/16 oz, 10” T-rigged worm in 20-30ft did the job. She came out of about 25ft of water, was 61+cm long and went just under 8lbs on the imperial scale…
Initial thoughts on the stick (I’m working on a RAID article with much more detail). Once again, RAID is way off with their ratings. This one is listed as XH, but fishes like a Heavy powered stick. Rated as fast, but Solid tip/taper is soft enough to help it load up nicely and backbone gets into action when needed.
Rod handled this big girl very nicely.
Sorry I’m looking scruffy, old and tired. It was a rough week and I was running on zero sleep after working a long day on Friday and leaving the house about 12:30am that night to make the 3 hour drive south.

Friggin' schuuuweeet, brutha! Cray-cray fishing 10" worm on 12lb fluoro, at least in my neck of the woods. BTW, "old and scruffy" is how them big ole girls like it! 😎
Looking forward to more info and details on the Raid.

Believe it or not, I used to throw it on 10lb…😅
Gin-clear water and the lighter 3/16 oz bullet along with it being a floater worm made me do it. I moved up to 12 a couple seasons ago and it’s been fine…just takes a bit longer to get down deep and doesn’t fall as vertically, so I peel off line on the drop. Not ideal, as I can (and I’m sure I have) miss a bite here and there. I will also go up to 14 and 16 depending on scenario, but my weight size will generally increase as well at that point.
