Every once in a while, I’ll reach for one of my retired rods, of which I have 2:  an EG Spin Cobra (which is currently my finesse worm set up) and an EG Pantera.  My home lake is John Robinson in Greer, SC, a small impoundment of about 1000 acres.

Well, the O.S.P. Blitz MR is a bit lighter than my normal Blitz DR, so I figure I’ll use the lighter, shorter rod.  The Pantera was designed as a crankin’ rod for tight quarters and creeks.  Well, designed for tight quarters or not, it can put a cast out there.  One thing leads to another and the next thing I know, I’m ordering a Steez Machine Gun Cast I for smaller cranks such as the O.S.P. Blitz, Blitz MR, HPF and Ichikawa 45.

Should be a blast to fish for your intended purposes. Expecting a full report after some time spent with it. Out of curiosity…What made you go with the MGC/Steez over other offerings out there?

I was thinking about an EG Wild Shooter or Sharp Shooter but I waited too long and they sold out.  I’ve been the Megabass route before and thought MB glass and EG glass is a little too soft.  I’m not a Shimano guy, so by extension that put the kibosh on Jackall.  Some of the other JDM stuff is a bit esoteric for me.  I’m not really a “deep cuts” kind a guy, some of it’s okay but I wanna hear the hits with a little bit a spice, not extended jams.  Can you tell I’m not a Phish or  Dead guy?

I’ve had some of older model Steez sticks and the only one I didn’t like was the Daiwa Steez AGS 7’1” heavy fast casting rod, STZ711HFB, I think.  I didn’t think it was sensitive enough, I actually watched a bass picked up my jig and pig,  couldn’t not feel it!  The fingers that could detect a freakin’ 4” Slider worm on a 1/16 oz worm weight couldn’t detect a 3/4 oz jig/pig combo!  I like their moving bait rods though.

That’s why I went with the Daiwa tried and true.  Yeah, it’s a bit vanilla but nothin’ better on a summer day!
