On my late Grandfather's birthday and my nephew's...a newly made fishing buddy/Tennessee country boy showed me another secret access spot. Early morning low light, cloud cover and calm waters bring topwater feeding on shad in this creek.
I went old school on the reels and baits and made it work out just fine.
J-11 floating jointed Rapala in black/silver foil + OG late 1990's Team Daiwa 1300i spinning reel paired with a Daiwa BLX 6'10" ML Limber, YGK 16lb SS112 + 10lb Gamma Polyflex leader.
Zoom Super Fluke rigged Mike Iaconelli style, Shimano Hard Rocker BB 8'3" MHF paired with a 2013 Certate 2510R-PE (4.8:1 gear ratio) spinning with same 16lb SS112 + 15lb Tatsu leader.

Awesome bro!
Thanks John....always learning, always adapting and evolving....for the better.
Also John, that's the exact J-11 floating Rapala that you sent me! 😎
Man…so much goodness in this post. Old school gems, beautiful fish and scenery. All win, brother…all win. 👏🏻👏🏻
@dragon1 what did more damage?…Fluke or the Jointed?
Fluke caught two on three hits, the Rapala got two hits and the biggest fish. If I were to want numbers, I would fish the fluke, that combo can cast it a LONG way, I mean 45-50 + yards average easily.
The bite in these areas are very small windows, and once the sun pops out or if there is any wind, even slightly, the topwater and shallow sunsurface bite really turns off and gets spotty.
