Had a good day on the water, despite the crazy weather.
Started off cold & windy, then sunny-calm, then cold/windy again…calm for about 20-30 minutes…then blew hard the rest of the day.
Despite that, decent numbers for both myself and my buddy Joel. All were quality aside from one dink with a few 5+ lbers and a grown one to anchor the outing. Bottom contact was the ticket.
Highlight of the trip for me…
A rod that I’ve had a love hate relationship with is the Steez RD 7011HRB. I dumped a DD a while back, at the Cali Delta while fishing this stick. Solid hookset, so I thought, but didn’t get good hook penetration, which cost me a very possible PB upgrade. That, along with a couple of other questionable moments with it have left a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. But…it’s also had some good days as a pitchin stick/in close quarter situations. As a result… It’s one of those rods that I hesitate to grab, out of uncertainty and being I have so many other rods available to use. So, I consciously made the effort to bring her with me this past weekend and put more time in with it/give it another chance…hoping to get rid of some bad mojo. I’m happy to report that it proved itself handling the biggest for the day and some others, beautifully. She measured up at 9.27 and probably would’ve been a new PB, had she been fattened up/full of eggs. Upgrade just wasn’t in the cards…but I’ll take it.
OG X7 Extreme Mission/Heavily modded Steez SVTW, and the Unlimited Rods Punch Shot/21 Zilly combos handled the rest.
12, 14, 16lb Sunline Sniper and Shooter on all combos.
We had to work for em, but, that’s much more satisfying at the end of a day like this.
Wow!!
beautiful catch. That RD rod was a hard find and when I found it I was betwixt and between and ultimately went with the lower priced deal and it failed so. It’s been no luck since and I’ve moved onto other rods but most definitely it was on my list.
they are just beautiful

They are stunning, but, this is a rod I have to admit, I very much misjudged in hand. Stout stick…slower taper, figured there was plenty of power on tap, but it’s been less than stellar in that department.
Nice 60up! Good day for tough weather. {pear}

Always good to see you guys getting the job done and having a good time with quality fish. Hope to team up at least once with you before your season down here is over and you move up north. Ohhh and I hope one day you get the one that puts a gigantic smile on your face brother. 😆
Nice bass! I dig mine. I’ve had really good luck with the Jiggastick. I do tend to hit the fish with a more solid hook set with it than some of my faster bottom contact rods. That taper and how light weight the rod is makes me work a little harder to penetrate the solid mouth of 5#ers +. Once they’re on they’re on though. Mines currently set up for froggin with a with a ZPI’d out Steez A. I look forward to picking it up more often in the next few weeks as it starts to warm up a little more.

Agreed, does make you work a bit harder, but keeps them pinned, beautifully. Also need to mention that I’m very happy with the way it loads up while utilizing it for pitching duties. Handles some lighter baits surprisingly well.
At least it shines in other areas, which is honestly what keeps it in active rotation.
BTW-Good to see you over here. 🤘🏼
Thanks bro. The dark side shines over here, and I’m all for it. I’ve visited your site before, but just found the forum. Right on for making a place for true enthusiast tackle. Hopefully I’ll be able to contribute some of my experience to other members. Looks like I recognize a few of the usual suspects already. ✌🏼

Appreciate the kind words, bud. It’s good to have you, and I know you’ve got some knowledge to share. 👊🏼💥
