I have been looking for an X7 The Destruction forever. So since I can't find one, anyone find anything similar to it? Something between 75 and 711 and with a weight range that maxes out at 2oz or so. It would do heavy bottom contact but also smaller swimbaits.
Always learning...
In my experience…The Destruction (bad ass stick, regardless) is just a touch too soft for anything other than open water/little to no composition/cover bottom contact with light weed guards and similar baits. It can and will work, (I use mine for light guard jig fishing at times) but extra effort is needed to drive hooks home at longer distances. It has been outstanding with lighter swimmers and deep/high resistance cranks. That said, even with the slightly more moderate taper, the blank is crisp and rebounds quickly, so a light hand while using cranks, is very much beneficial. I’ll upload some taper pics tonight.
Hopefully those convey the taper pretty well for you. Not the best pictures, just quickies, but you can see it gets pretty deep into the back bone under load.
Definitely worth the wait and I’m confident you’ll find one.

If you’re set on an X7 Destruction, there is nothing else quite like it… For longer sticks that are very versatile in the specified weight range, if you want to stay in the legacy lines, Megabass has the Seven-Eleven in the X4 lineup and in the Phase 3 lineup. These are much more readily available (and cheaper).
The Record-Breaker may also work (P3), but that one is more stout and definitely biases toward flipping. Sensitivity in the X4 and P3 lines isn’t as good as the X7 line but it’s not terrible either.
Hope this helps, happy to take pics of the taper if it’s helpful.
@saoulons Thanks for the recommendations! Are the X4 and P3 telescopic?
Always learning...
@saoulons I agree, Seven-eleven in both series may work for lighter offerings/situations, but the Record Breaker, is still on the softer side, even for my preferences when it comes flippin duties. My record breaker is a dedicated plopper/large topwater stick and it’s amazing for those 1oz +/-range .
You did however remind of another stick though…one I think would fit the bill nicely. The X4 Black Python. Definitely capable. Taper is VERY close to a true fast, and if you’re ok with a couple inches longer at 8’1”, the ACS seat and a tad less sensitivity, it would be a very, very solid option. Not to mention it’s easily the sexiest of all the X4 builds.
Couple pics of fish taken on the Record Breaker/Zilly R/Plopper combo, including a fun double.
Good stuff @rise It has been a while since I caught a double-header…
It never crossed my mind to use my BP for bottom dragging (before I sold it). I used it primarily to heave big cranks a country mile.
@OP, all the aforementioned rods are telescopic (for better or worse). The X4 7-11 has the double feature of being both telescopic AND spiral-wrapped. You either love or loathe this, there is no in-between.
I fish primarily in the Northeast, so my pitching and flipping is very finessy - 1/2 oz, 3# fish, a lilly pad here and there…
Tackle Tour made an article comparing the X4 BP and 7-11 a few years back. I don’t always agree with their assessments but they are interesting to read.
I’m gonna go against my soul and make another suggestion: Megabass Triza Dragoon. It’s a travel rod and comes with 2 tips - fast and regular. It’s shorter (7’ 2”) and definitely doesn’t have the psyche of the legacy lines. But once you find your X7, the Triza can sit in the back of your truck or be the rod you bring when visiting the in-laws…
Not sure I’m helping… Somebody find this person an X7 Destruction, please!
@saoulons I 100% agree with you on “love it or loathe it”…doesn’t bother me, personally.
@saoulons did you just recommend a Triza…? Lol I’ve heard and seen first hand that the Triza line can break.. but I have never used one to be able to give real feedback. You might be pushing me to try one. Lol

I know, I felt myself hurt inside a little when I did that... lol
I own 2 travel rods - The X4 Secret Service Cyclone Backpacker and the Triza Dragoon. They cover all my baitcasting needs when I don't have the luxury of bringing out the boat and the heavy artillery (at some point, we should start a thread of everyone's "regular" arsenals).
I don't have a ton of time on the Dragoon but it has served me well for its intended role in my rotation (a handful of times a year, jig fishing from shore or throwing medium swimbaits / wakebaits). It definitely doesn't make the cut when I can bring one-piece rods with me but it fits nicely in the back of the minivan or in an airplane overhead bin 😉
It does feel weird to insert the Triza in an X7 thread... May the Orochi powers that be have mercy on my soul.
@saoulons hahaha I was giving you a hard time because you seemed guilty just mentioning it. 🤣
I understand the need for small and compact. And that is the only reason I’ve even toyed with getting a Triza. Granted I will say I own 3 Hyugas so in the world of fragile Megabass rods they definitely fit in that category. 😅
I don’t own any MH-H multi piece rods.. I recently sold my SS Cyclone.. and you know what I think I’ll start a new thread on travel rods. Lol
