I think it may have something to do with Namiki being sponsored by Sunline and Daiwa.  Then again, it may not!

Feels nice in hand on land.  Maiden voyage on the water in a couple hours.  Will report!

Fished the Machinegun Cast side by side, one after the other it the Tatula Elite Tak 7’ MH crankin’ rod.  I was going to do a “Tale of the Tape”, like with boxers but it’s apples and oranges.  The Steez is lithe, light, sensitive and responsive.  The Tatula just overwhelms the fish, it’s slow, it sticks like molasses to the fish and doesn’t let go.

I fished with 3 different baits though.  I fished the MGC with the OSP Blitz and Blitz MR, I fished the Tatula with the Blitz EX DR, weights are similar but the running depths are totally different.

Next trip I’ll use the same bait, the Blitz DR with flouro with the Steez and nylon with the Tatula.

To be continued

Why, of course, after using the Machinegun Cast I for the first time I would have to order DAIWA 21 STEEZ SC C66ML-G / - LIGHTNING 66-ShoreCompetition, a glass crankbait rod!

Whistling Passed The Graveyard Dept:

I’m hooked into a small channel cat on an Evergreen Combat Crank FSR on my new Machinegun Cast I and I freakin’ tripped on over the trolling motor cable (I own a 17’ tin rig) .  The rod was not immediately broken or visible damage but shit never happens immediately, alway lies in wait for the inopportune time.

I continued to use it but didn’t catch anything else so I couldn’t test it further on the water.  I examined it pretty closely when I got home and couldn’t see any problems but that doesn’t mean a whole lot.

Let’s just hope I dodged a bullet and put it into the “dodged a bullet column (fingers crossed!).  Oh, I also lost the lure when the freakin’ kitty fish rolled while I was unhooking it.

Mother Murphy was unfortunately a passenger in your boat that day...sorry to hear, best to learn from it and turn the page.

I did some checking and although I can’t be 100% sure, I’ve done some reading about graphite’s properties.   It can be fragile and temperamental with breakage, because of the how it was done, it could have more of bending than sharp snapping.

@blitzdr - so the loading properties may have been changed?  If that is the case, then it may effect how it casts, sets hook, reacts with lures in action, fights the fish.

Keep us posted.

It’s probable I’m not explaining what happened correctly.  Because I wasn’t “high-sticking” the rod or providing a shearing force from a direction.  I tripped and broke my fall with my palm, it was a more natural bend, like when you’re fighting a fish and it surges, it was a “natural” bend or twist of the rod not a snap.

It could be a case of no harm, no foul.  I inspected the blank once more for good measure, fingertips and eyes (which aren’t as good as they used to be!) and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.  So, it’s still fingers crossed.

So, no changes in properties just a caution flag for future fancy footwork!
