Hey TP,
I spent the last few weeks in Utah and had a blast visiting my brother and his family, including my two nieces! I was fortunate to add several new outdoor experiences to my list of memories, with many photos taken along the way. I did as much fishing as I could and figured out a few places worth while for future visits. Here is a little look at some of the adventures I found myself partaking in...
American Fork, Utah, located just a few minutes away from Utah Lake:
This Datsun was too cool! I love the JDM/USA badge on the grille:
Got a few lightning strikes on camera:
My nieces are inseparable, its the best!
Hooked a bass a private wake boarding lake and did a quick hand-off to my niece:
Did the same with my other niece so she could reel in a White Bass:
And had to improvise a USB cable as a stringer! 🤣
Seeing my girls on the water, fishing, was priceless!
And caught my first White Bass on Utah Lake:
First Smallie on the boards, from Deer Creek Reservoir!
Another one a bit bigger.
This poor bat must have been dehydrated, it stayed in the garage overnight and was dead on the floor the next morning.
a few more Largies from Deer Creek Reservoir...
a 1st for me, a Kokanee Salmon that hit a Clown Vision 110, right at my feet!
Almost every night has sunsets like these:
Lucky Craft Pointer hinted at what was to come...
And this combo, my oh my, I put this together for my brother, more on this later...
This sunset was so dark and moody!
This is the view up at Deer Creek Reservoir, I did not want to leave!
I got this small Walleye late in the afternoon! Actually was the 2nd or 3rd Walleye I caught, the 1st one being a good size but it wiggled outta my hand while I was trying to get my camera out of the bag.
I also missed my return flight home due to a late Uber ride, so I got fish one more time, and boy did I fish hard. I pulled an all nighter...
I caught some small bass on a Chatterbait and a few more on a Buzzjet. So, I booked another Uber ride to the other side of the lake and fished through dawn. Finally found something a little bigger on the Pointer 78!
I continued to fish sunup and at about 6:44 am, I got the kicker I was really looking for! The Pointer 78 in Ghost Minnow was the MPV!
This orange tackle bag is giving me ideas for more rod/reel builds heee heeee!
Safely released to grow bigger! I know there are some trophy class Smallies in these waters, until next time...
Now, onto the important matter of the combo I put together for my brother...
Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch + JDM Zillion 1000 SV TW + SLP Works carbon fiber handle 90mm with SLP Works knobs in color shift green!
This is one of the all time best combos I have ever held! There is a smoothness and seamlessness to this combo that is both refreshing and exhilarating! A rare instance where the rod and reel go mute and all you feel is the bait working as intended, and then the strike!
The Perfect Pitch handled baits from Lucky Craft Pointer 78 up to Norman DD22's with ease. Other lures like the Vision 110 and Megabass V3 spinnerbait felt very good. The blank is crisp and fast, with enough give on the tip to launch lures accurately, but provides a quick shutoff into the backbone. The blank does not torque to either side while retrieving baits or fighting fish.
This combo balances pretty well. Not perfect, but near it, and very acceptable. On the water it is not noticeable.
And of course we all know the Zilly is as smooth as it gets! Absolutely no drawbacks to this combo, it is a match made in heaven and I plan to duplicate another one for myself soon!
Thanks for looking and happy fishing!

Wow, spectacular pics and gorgeous backdrops...the power of nature is awesome.
And best of times, Uncle! Enjoy your beautiful family!
Welp…this is hands-down the post of the year so far…👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Simply outstanding, sir. What an amazing sequence of shots and seriously enjoyable storytelling to go with it all.
Bravo!!!
From the looks of the water quality and the healthy appearance of the fish...that reservoir most likely holds a teener walleye and massive 6+ smallies that feast on the kokenee out in deeper water. Same with the largies, wouldn't surprise me that a DD is in there somewhere.
IIRC, the UT state record largie is a teener.
@dragon1 I am sure you are correct! I did not bring ANY of my own tackle for this trip, as fishing was not the primary focus. It was KILLIN' me wondering how big a Smallie I could draw in with a 250! Not to mention I have a 3:16 Wake Jr. in trout pattern that should be irresistable! But having done some good recon, next trip I will be well armed! 🤣
