My monthly trip with Ryan Cook found us on New Melones where we haven't been to in a long time. This is one of my favorite Mother Lode lakes where a good mix of largemouth, and spots can be found. Although the bite up here hasn't been wide open,we did end up catching 23 fish with some nice fish in the 2 1/2-3 3/4 range. The fish were fat and sassy, with spots giving us a good fight for their size. To give you an idea of the quality of the fish,1 largemouth was 16 inches long, and weighed 2 3/4 lbs! We caught fish on tubes, jigs, weighted wacky headed Senkos, and shakeyheads with 6" Green pumpkin purple Roboworms. Most fish were caught in the 25-50 range, but a few smaller fish were caught close to shore off steep banks. Weather was pretty nice with some gusting winds at time. Overall it was another great day on the water.
Muy Excelente!
Outstanding. I need to get up there. Good stuff. What combos/gear did you use?
Very nice. I like that lake a lot although I'm usually only there during hunting season with my brother. Haven't been there In a few years though. Ryan takes my cousin out fishing fairly often and they seem to catch a lot of fish.
