I gathered a 15+ pound bag of soft plastics that I found just in one spot by the first dock...these are toxins in the water that won't degrade for many years...just disgusting. This is why I stopped using soft plastics as a main bait/lure years ago.
These baits expand to many times their original size....there are 12" - 14" craws in the bag that were probably ~ 3-4" originally
I'm cleaning up what I can.
Wow…..good on you brother. I’m sure so many of us don’t even take these things into consideration. Good for thought…
Thank you for doing that. 👊🏼💥
This issue has always made me ponder when we, as the driving force of our industry...will push for biodegradable soft plastics, or at least more environmentally friendly compounds, as well as a culture that is more responsible about disposal of said plastics.
In the end, this world belongs to our children and their children, not just us...
I’m with you. I don’t judge, don’t comment, haven’t even said as much that I recall, but also steered toward hardbaits for this reason a couple decades ago. Back then it was mostly plastics for me, and I still have my share believe me, and I won’t hesitate to use them if I feel I should. But I am much more conscious now, if I sense they may fail I remove them, and I run keepers or glue, I don’t take the risk anymore. I remember days a group of us went through bags of worms, and never thought much of it until seeing as you describe.
I applaud your willingness to make the world a better place. Take out more than you bring in. It’s disgusting how some discard near anything in the drink, shameless, selfish. Some of the shore banging spots around here are so littered now it’s not worth the trip anymore. But every single time I do make that trip, I also make a trip to the trash can once it’s over, picking up other peoples shit as I go. It’s a disgrace.

I have always, since I can remember, kept plastic bags when me when I go fishing, and I make it a habit to pick up discarded line, baits, hooks, cans, bottles, as much as I am able. It's my way to honor and protect and defend my spiritual being and give back to Mother Nature.
