Hey TP,

My Blacksheep 250 is having issues where the brakes engage/disengage randomly. It seems to me they are compromised, because I notice the force of casting seems to pop them in and out of contact with the raceway.

1. Does anyone know how to fix this?

2. Which reel's spool has the same brake unit? I believe Daiwa refers to it as "Centriflex cast control?"

3. I believe the Millionaire 250 CV-Z and Luna 253/300 share the same spool & brake unit; can anyone confirm?

4. Schematics of any of these reels are welcomed so I can order parts from Daiwa USA.

5. My other idea is maybe buying an entire reel to serve as a parts donor for the Blacksheep.

6. Is the Blacksheep 250 based on the same platform as the Millionaire 250 CV-Z?

1) Let’s run through this.

2) Can you post a pic of the braking system for reference. I believe it’s the same as the Luna 300

3) The CV-Z 250 is the largest Daiwa reel to utilize Mag Z braking, hence the “Z” designation. I own one and it’s a pain to adjust the mag brakes as you need to remove the side plate to do so, but it’s Mag braking.

4) I’ll post pics of schematics when we get power restored at our house. I believe there will be some interchangeable parts that are still available.

5) Don’t jump the gun…let’s see what we can dig up.

6) Yes, but brake assemblies/spool are different.

7) Man, do I still love that legendary picture…

1) 10/4.

2) Blacksheep 250 brake unit:

Luna 300 review:

3) Understood. I got a little mixed up (going through a lot lately).

4) Schematic here:

5) 10/4.

6) 10/4

7) Thanks friend! That was a fun photoshoot I did for school!

The white dial inside of the brake unit seems loose. It rotates freely in either direction. I recall the first time I tried to adjust the brakes, this problem began. I remember adjusting the small white triangular part into different notches, and from then on it just seems loose. Did I break something?

I can take the Centriflex cast control unit apart and put it back together. Upon inspection, I can't find any damage on anything. I also checked against the schematic and there isn't any missing parts. I am stumped. It's like it works yet it doesn't. 🧐
