Anyway on day one I was getting bite consistently on missile baits finesse worms on 1/8oz weight 5-8 lb test and I also got some on a jerk bait. i went home and regrouped to figure some things out and went back out two days later.

I didnt get a bite at all. NO exaggeration, like not even a sniff on anything

I did find some grass in 17-22' of water which I am super excited about. I threw everything imagiable on the second trip and it was a warming trend. there is nothing in terms of cover except Grass. no wood and I know there are some Christmas trees that have been sunken.

I was looking at a Designo Leben Torque Tune DLT 611 but can't find any info on it. Anyone know anything about this rod or have suggestions on rods that will be good for this? Thanks

Over recent years, it’s slowly become one of my top 3 favorite rigs to toss. Better in scenarios where a more vertical drop is needed. With the right tip section, it does well in cover/structure. Love the action with the right bait aboard and its casts very nicely.

Going back a couple years up to recent outings utilizing this setup have yielded great results, including a trio of 7+lb fish. The RAID Bishop and EG Black Raven Extreme have been perfect for tossing these rigs. Zero Dan and Gammy Gika rigs are both nice, but the Zero Dan gets the nod, as it utilizes a swivel to tie onto, thus eliminating any possible line twists. Decoy did a great job with R&D on this one, IMO.

Anyone else out there tossing these as often as I am lately?

For some reason, bottom contact has always eluded me as a fisherman, most likely because the species that I have chased most of my life (wiper, white bass, walleye) are more baitfish oriented. All I ever knew since I was a kid was to just chuck and wind. I am very comfortable using baits top to middle of the water column but never dabbled with bottom contact. So my fishing goal this year was to work on my bottom contact fishing as I have gotten more into bass fishing/using bass fishing techniques for other species. I've got the gear to do so, now I just need the experience and knowledge. From a few trips that I have tried it (keep in mind I'm a shore fisherman) I'm not sure what to do or what not to do. Apparently the fish haven't like it much either as well since I haven't had too many takers besides a big catfish.

Some context about where I fish: most lakes are just man-made reservoirs surrounded by concrete dams that drop at a very gradual rate. Almost no structure/vegetation and the bottom is almost always hard sand. All I pretty much do is cast and drag with the occasional hop and try to get a feel for the bottom.

So just some questions that come to mind...

Why one bait over another (eg. worm over jig etc)?

What makes you hop versus drag/stroke/deadstick etc?

When do you decide to drop the other techniques in favor of bottom contact (and vise versa)?

How do you interpret the bottom based on what your feeling?

Looking forward to some input!

{black}

In my experience…a 1/4 oz “Rock Crawler” ball head is the ticket with this bait. Buoyancy and action is spot on for a slow, creeping crawl across the bottom, while also staying on top of rocky terrain effectively. Bait has been VERY productive for me since I started tossing it a year+ ago. Anyone else finding success with it? If so, what’s been your favorite way to rig it?
