Reaching out for some feedback regarding a BFS rod selection.....

Baits that I will be using are the Great Hunting Humpback, Flat side, Smith LTD. D-Contact 50, and Pointer 45 which are in the 2 to 5 gram weight range. Majority of the fishing would be "crank bait" style applications, no soft plastic or bottom contact. Would prefer a rod length of 6 to 6.5 feet. I have an Ian built 2016 Alphas Air 7.2L reel which would probably have 4 - 6 pound line on it. Looking for a one piece rod, none of the travel multiple piece stuff.

Any suggestions??

@blksheepfishing

GC Killers Red Meltbone will handle the upper part of that range beautifully, and features an ECS seat unlike most of the other models. I will admit I don’t fish down to 2g, But that rod is money for finesse moving baits.

Fenwick KTF anniversary model

ABU Fantasista Deez 10th Anniversary TZ Ltd

Smith Tourler V-spec Bait Finesse Special

@Auquaftm could be of some help in this as well.

I really only pay attention to the JDM (specifically Made in Japan) rods and in that realm, I think you are looking for a unicorn. Rise might have named the ones that that are close. I just don't see single piece, 6' plus MIJ rods that are capable of 2-5 gram moving baits on the market. Plenty of multi-piece I could rattle off.  I'm sure there are some Ali Baba's or the like around.

Yamaga Blanks Blue Current III 69B might do the trick...granted it is a (very well built) 2-piece.

Here's a pretty good video on it and the field rep is using an Alde BFS.  At about the 8 minute mark he hooks into a fish (never got close enough to be identified?), that just kicked his butt...lol.

@dragon1 nice…I’ve yet to try any of the Blue Current offerings, but only hear good things. Everything Yamaga does is great quality. Did I read that right? .75g?!

What fight on that last fish… can’t believe they cut the video… He must’ve lost it

Yeppers, I'm think so as well...there wasn't much he could do with such light fluoro and that tiny hook to boot.  Some other notable details of Yamaga Blanks are that they are essentially all made/manufactured/assembled in Japan, and the strength and elasticity of the blanks is very surprising.

And yes, this blank handles incredibly light weights, while also being crazy light itself.

I have an article breaking down the JDM rod companies that are still doing everything in house…need to finish it. But, yes I’ve talked about it before…Yamaga does it all from R&D to scrim/rolling blanks, to paint/decals, build, ship, marketing…you name it. They are the whole package. I absolutely love my Acrobas. They rival and surpass almost every other rod I own in their class and ones costing 2-3 times as much.

Those Acrobas are wicked sweet rods, and they are like hen's teeth as well.
