SIDENOTE: Arms and shoulders sore from tossing that bait!
This is good…. Do you believe it actually came close to depth at cast length figure 35yds or so? And cadence to acquire, some lipped dive better slower vs faster sorry to ask. I’m sniffing these but often have current to deal with which drastically alters what I’m looking for is why I ask. Thanks man
Yesterday's exercise was basically Two-Fold:
1. Casting with a rod with parameters more in line with the bait size/weight.
2. To get the "feel" of a bait running down to 30'+ depths
As mentioned above, the weight is acceptable. I just think it should be longer to launch a bait a bit better. The second is how baits feel at depths I'm not come close to hitting. My previous depths were 5' or less 80% of the time, maybe down to 10', maybe 12' tops.
It's got me thinking again.
1. I just might NEED the Zillion TW HD.
2. I just might NEED brass gears, POSSIBLY.
3. I just might be better off with lower gear ratio, 7.1:1.
As far as actual depth achieved, I can only say "deep". The water is relatively clear and it was probably down to -15' BUT that's by reckoning, not actual measuring device. This was just preliminary. More research with instruments.
Good stuff, especially in regards to running at new depths. What line/test are running on the reel, and I do agree with going to a lower ratio and longer handle for torque. Additionally…Brass is a must for high resistance baits IMO…period.

It's 16# Daiwa JDM Steez Durabra Max Nylon.
I'm actually thinking about going to a Calcutta Conquest 100 or 200. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I think round reels are a bit better for heavy duty applications.
Additional side note ... LOVE the Wild Shooter for the Gan Craft 128!!!
A couple of stumbles though:
1. Should have gotten Slow Sinker NOT the Floater but I still think it will work in the end.
UPDATE: 128 is only available in Floater.
2. Should have gotten a slate, brown or gray back not green, again, minor.
