I picked up this rod in between the Machinegun Cast I and the Harrier for smaller cranks, topwaters, maybe jerkbaits.  Have it paired with a Zillion SV TW 1000 XH.

More to follow …

O.S.P. SSRs, Blitz and Blitz MR, HPF base and Spec 2, Ichikawa 45s

Possibly some Blitz DRs

It’s softer than the Tatula Elite but it may bit stiffer than the Machinegun Cast I.  I was supposed to hit the lake today but was feeling a bit off balance for some reason.  Not a good symptom on breezy day in the 40s!

I hope you get to feeling better soon and that your equilibrium issues are quickly and fully remedied.

Was able to spend a couple of hours on the lake but it wasn’t productive, very little activity.

I’m not sure about the Lightning for topwaters or for small cranks.  I can work topwater until the end of November because of the shad, then small cranks with panfish and craw.  I’ll get a better idea over the next few months.

It’s been some time since I was able to use my Steez Lightning.  I got it for small topwaters and crankbaits.  Finally looked into a fish but dropped it.  Water temp is 47º, so it wasn’t an aggressive hit and would you believe a thorny twig interfered with the set.  Anyhoo, the taper, action and stiffness/firmness of the blank are 90º different from the Signature Elite Tak Omori crankin’ rod.

It’s reminded me of a quality rod from back in the day.  Not sloppy, whippy or wimpy but more graphitey than fiberglassy.  Like fiberglass tires out the fish with bounce.  To me, graphite is more like arm wrestling, continued pressure and leverage until the objective is achieved.  This was almost like a ratchet, then release, ratchet, release.

Nobody likes losing a fish but I really hate in January when the fish are few and far between.  Ever forward!

Bass 1 and 2 on the Lightning.  Nothing big but broke the ice.  Need something over 5 lbs to challenge it.
