Please tell me how this rod performs .. I've been eyeing it and Im really wanting to hear from someone whose used it before I take another gamble. The alternative is the steez compile x power universal but i'm tired of this series and the carbon guides although i've never had any issues with them..
Please advise because in the next 27 hours I have to decide between these two rods or look for something else..
Seems being tired of Daiwa should be the only motivation you need

You have a point there.. Im not to good gambling so I was hoping for some feedback but I may have to roll the die
Wish I could offer some insight, but the Oltres and ATS series are the only ones I’ve got experience with. The Efreet and other-newer series lost my interest, as the aesthetics went cold (compared to previous models) in my eyes. Not that the way things look matters in terms of performance as I’ve learned throughout the years, but it is definitely relevant if I’m going to buy blind. There were rumors from solid sources about an Oltre 2.0 series that was supposed to come to the market, but has not. That said, I can’t imagine the Efreets are slouches in the performance department. I’d say it’s worth a shot. Live a little, try something new. That’s just my 2 cents.
a dead sword and a efreet before v day..
better make her gift count..lol .. thanks all
I appreciate it..
@goldrod I look forward to your thoughts on that efreet. I’ve heard good things about that series. I think the blank is made with T1100 G. Also, if the build quality is anything like the oltres, which I assume it should be, these should be great rods. I have a couple of the oltres and I actually dig the slightly more muted look on the efreets, at least from what I’ve seen from photos. I’ve almost pulled the trigger on that exact model in the past.
on the way,
Ill let you know
Report back after some time with it. I’m curious as well.
Rod is here.
its not a one piece unfortunately like advertised. HOWEVERRRRR
however it splits at the handle albeit not like I've ever seen or rather have. There is ( unmeasured) about 6 inches of rod from the locking nut that is hollow and then the top piece fits in..
My initial impressions are, its a very clean minimalistic build but sublte ques that give you that JDM styling.
At first I was like this rod is tip heavy but light. Forgive me if that dont make sense but its light, like Light in weight and when I put a D7 on it, the balance was no issue at all. The rod is robust , and doesn't Feel like most blanks I've had. Its more akin to a point blank blank but lighter and it has a very distinctive feel on the unpainted parts. The first three guides are double foot and something I love the most is the handle behind the reel seat is just long enough to do anything.
Reel has a fresh 18lb sunline on it.. I've fish a 1/2 jig and baby D bomb.
The rod is not lacking in sensitivity and to be honest I'd rather have this rod than my NRX 894 or point blank custom build. Or LE or H3 rod due to the lightness and the robustness but just the ergonomics of the rod and how sensitive i have felt it to be thus far.
Believe it or not, but this type of build is considered one piece in Japan for all practical purposes. It’s not until the blank is center cut that they consider it true 2 piece. Many high end rods of this length and power are going to come just like this in Japan. In many cases, the blank slides right into the handle, however. I have several of that design and I find that they fish every bit as well as a traditionally set one piece blank.
I really like the look of this rod. Clean and elegant. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve had my eye on this very model for some time. You’ve certainly stirred that monkey again with these pics. Enjoy it man!
Awesome write and pics... thanks for taking the time to share and post pics! Diggin' the combo with the CH D series.
Where did you purchase the rod from, Jorrick?
Quality info and pics. Appreciate you sharing. Gammy definitely went in a different direction with the current iterations. I was surprised to see that pretty much everything they are doing has moved towards that simple, clean look. Almost zero “flash” but from my experience with their rods over the years…they really know how to engineer a quality stick.
Would love to hear back after some long term experience/time on the water.
in the meantime…hope you enjoy it.
