What's your big deep crank rod? I'm exploring in that direction for stuff to handle things like a Big M 7.5 or 10XD. At this point I'm almost just going to go with a big bait stick instead like a DRT 73 remix, Designo Slang, or MB White Python SB. I know the usual option is a XX Launcher but I'm not sure that's "dark" enough for me. At the same time I've read about the Sedition White Falcon but that seems a little too dark for my wallet.

Always learning...

The prototypical stick isn’t necessarily available, and bottom bouncing requires feedback. I’m not talking bait movement, per se, but rather lack of movement indicating debris or the often missed from behind pickup. Avoid fiberglass and simply get what makes you happy. Play with it. Focus on hookup ratio. If you’re missing strikes you need more line stretch, not a lighter stick. And don’t make your mind up what line you’re going to use either. Let the stick tell you what it wants. Those rare events I seek such depth I'm either using my Megabass White Python SB (listed) or Gan Craft Outtrack. I don't own the others.

The best advice I've seen for anyone shopping for a technique specific rod.

I use an Evergreen - Combat Stick Heracles Actaeon.

 I throw a Very slow reel and straight braid for Big crawlers and nighttime fun. Then swap the reel to floro for other applications if need be.

@gswimbait

Thanks for the kind words. Over the years it made sense to get a few sticks from a variety of manufacturers depending on what I was looking to accomplish. No right or wrong, just trial and error. If it felt right, it was right. It did not matter what anybody said.

Where it gets confusing is how manufacturers tend to have a feel about them sometimes a little or a lot different than others though. It can make selection difficult dropping coin the way we do. But you got to start somewhere…

White Python SB, all day for me. I own a few of em, and they get used often. Put my new PB in the boat 2 years ago on that stick with a Z200H and 10XD tied on. Very much a niche rod in my Arsenal, but just outstanding for big treble hook baits.

Megabass Black Jungle FX-83XBJ Double Bull is one I'd always wanted to try for it. I've used the DRT X Tulala 85 Remix and it was pretty awesome for big deep cranks.

I have the White Python II straight handle version, and agree it is good for cranking. It may differ from the Slant Bridge versions, I don't know...but when it comes to crankin' I don't like a soft rod tip. Just my preference, I know most guys like that.

I would recommend the gen. 2 Levante Leviathan. I throw big cranks on that rod often and it really performs well for me. I mainly throw DD22's with it, but can also downsize to DD14's, and various other shallow cranks. I would highly recommend it.
