There's more wraps and rotations of line on a smaller width of the spool with the faster gear ratio.

This tends to happen after a faster gear ratio is installed. I test casted for a couple hours yesterday in my backyard. If I engaged and reeled in with the line angle on the spool skewered opposite of the line guide position, over a couple of casts, the line will start to pile up unevenly on the spool. It's just basic mathematics of how and where the line starts laying after a cast.

If I am cognizant of peeling off some line after a cast, to be aligned straight ahead of the line guide, this issue is remedied. Of note, the 8.1 brass gear set from The Tackle Trap is quality, as is the Pixy Carbontex drag and washer set in the kit. The teeth cut and depth are quite a bit smaller than the 6.3 for sure, in order to achieve the higher ratio.

How many guys still use Loomis because Grandad had one?

I still maintain that my fishing skill level increased exponentially due to G-Loomis blank sensitivity. I don't have any of their new offerings because I can't stand their handle designs, placement of hook keeper and overall aesthetics. But if Megabass built a rod with a G-Loomis blank, and the looks matched the performance, I would be all in.
The sticks hit or miss, just being honest, and my personal complaint of minimalist build philosophy predictably ending in catastrophe. I don't get out nearly as often as some and I lost count how many MB sticks of mine exploded or fell apart years ago. I probably still have half dozen broken in a closet waiting for parts cannibalization. They didn't last. It got to a point I was scared to lean into them and eventually asked myself what I was doing? Who was I fooling? Why bother? What, who, why. The answer was me. So, I quit. Now, if anybody has a wad of 110's they're looking to sell reasonably send me pm. Cool...

Hey Guys,

I ordered Steez 103HA gear and pinion for my Type R+, not realizing the Steez main gear does not have holes in it to accept the small plastic gear from the Type R+ that sits underneath it. Can anyone advise if the small plastic gear from the 103HA (key #78) has straight edges on the inside hole? It cannot just be circular, it needs to lock into the drive shaft.

Or, if I am totally off, can anyone advise what other parts I need, OR if I need to get the gear and pinion from ANOTHER model of Steez altogether?

-triple_illusion
